In 1891, astronomers discovered asteroid 323 Brucia, which crosses the orbit of Mars.
The asteroid 323 Brucia was discovered by Max Wolf at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory and is named after Catherine Wolfe Bruce. It is an S-type asteroid about 28 kilometers across that spins once in about 9 hours. It takes about 1,343 days to go once around the Sun.
