In 1968, Apollo 7 lifted off, the first crewed flight of the Apollo program.
Apollo 7 flew on a Saturn IB rocket with Wally Schirra, Donn Eisele and Walter Cunningham aboard. The flight completed 163 orbits and splashed down on October 22, 1968. The USS Essex recovered it.
