In 1610, Galileo's telescope first showed Callisto & Ganymede beside Jupiter.
Callisto is one of the Galilean moons, and it was Simon Marius who gave it its name. It measures 4,821 kilometers across and takes nearly 17 days to go once around Jupiter.
