In 1969, Mariner 6 lifted off, an uncrewed NASA flight to Mars.
Mariner 6 was built and operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as part of Mariner 6 and 7. Its planetary flyby came on July 31, 1969, and it was retired from service on December 23, 1970.
