In 1903, the Wright Flyer, a powered aircraft heavier than air, made its first flight.
The 1903 Wright Flyer was designed by the Wright brothers, and only one was built. It is made of spruce and muslin, among other materials, and has a wingspan of about 12.3 meters. Since December 17, 1948, it has been part of the collection of the National Air and Space Museum.
