In 2008, the Fermi space telescope lifted off to study the sky in gamma rays.
The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope is named after Enrico Fermi, and it is operated by NASA together with the United States Department of Energy. A Delta II rocket put it into low Earth orbit, where one lap takes it about 95 minutes.
